talian racing motorcycle design legend Giancarlo Morbidelli
passed away in his hometown of Pesaro, Italy, at the age of 86.
Morbidelli is best known for creating some of the world's most
successful small-capacity, two-stroke Grand Prix racers, his bikes
dominating the 125cc GP World Championship from 1975 to 1977
and his 250 also claiming the 250cc crown.
In 1978, he joined forces with Benelli to create MBA, and cus-
tomer production versions of his 125 machine that took the 125cc
World Championship in 1978 and again in 1980.
Although Morbidelli himself was not a racer, his son, Gianni,
was a Formula One driver in the 1990s. CN
