P124 50 Years Ago MARCH 3, 1970 LOOKING BACK We had fun by asking our readers if they could identify the tools pictured on the front page and answer a variety of questions regarding motorcycle maintenance and basic mechanical knowhow in our Nuts And Bolts quiz… Indian Dunes hosted a round of the CMC Golden State Series, where Johnny O'Mara, Mark Lawrence and Tim Locey came away with the Pro-class wins… We featured an in-depth interview with Jeff Ward who went straight from the minicycle ranks to the 125cc National MX Championship. 40 Years Ago FEBRUARY 27, 1980 We ran a photo of amateur/expert racer Mike Payse from Huntington Beach Motocross 50 years ago… We featured a story via first-hand account on what it is like to be a student at the Gary Bailey Motocross School, which was conducted in Oroville, California… We covered JN Roberts' win at the Little Bear desert race in Lucerne Valley, California. The win was unique in that Roberts parked his usual Husqvarna two-stroke for a Rickman Westlake four-stroke. Didn't matter, he still won… Mark Brelsford kept winning at the Cow Palace. (Left) Yamaha had fun with this ad featuring Jeremy McGrath and his tuner Randy Lawrence after winning the Houston Supercross in 2000. (Below) We took a close-up look at some of the factory-backed Supercross bikes of 1990, which included Damon Bradshaw's Yamaha YZ250.
