IIIMY OWN RACE: the championship, and in riding and every- thing. It's kind of déjà vu this weekend and last weekend but led for longer. Had a solid day, just, you know—inches." 32 JUSTIN COOPER 3RD 250SX Jus n Cooper is staying in the champion- ship hunt, but he knows he's a li le bit off from the top two at the moment. "We've all had bad nights, and I was the last one to have one, so I felt I had a good [points] cushion, and I kind of blew it when I shouldn't have," Cooper said. "Just some mistakes on my part. I guess I've learned from them, but I felt like I rode good tonight; just a li le bit off the pace. Those guys just kind of walked away from me." 3 ELI TOMAC 4TH 450SX A er winning the previous round, Eli Tomac had a tough main event in San Di- ego, and his forward progress was marred by a rough ba le with Jus n Barcia that let the leaders get away. "Well, I was chal- lenged tonight a er having to fight my way towards the front in the main," he said. "I didn't have the best start, but we'll get back to work with the team this week and hope to improve for Tampa next weekend. I do feel I rode well tonight, and I'm proud we were able to make up quite a few posi- ons to finish fourth on the night." Tomac now trails Roczen in the championship by 1 point with 11 rounds le to run. and let Ferrandis by, as well. Then the points leader, Fer- randis, went to work on Forkner, trying at least three times to force his way by only for For- kner to rebuff him. But then, with about three minutes to go, Ferrandis muscled his way by Forkner (who briefly went off the track) and took the lead, eventu- ally winning the race by about six seconds over Forkner. Then came Ferrandis' teammate Justin Cooper in third, and Mosiman in fourth. Once again, Ferrandis was booed for his success, despite the fact that the replay indicated Ferrandis didn't even touch Forkner on his way by. At least now Ferrandis seems to expect the boos and seems to use the hatred from the fans as fuel. "I don't really care," Ferrandis said. "I know there is a little bit-, I don't know the word in English, but to be French and to fight with an American like Austin [Forkner], and beat him, I can understand the perspective of the fans. But I feel like it's only people who are not really inside the industry who are booing me, and all the people in the indus- try understand the situation, so I don't really care about that.
