LOOKING BACK
Kenny Roberts was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago
to accompany our interview with the champ who wanted to see changes
in Grand Prix road racing… Ron and Danny Turner, and Goat Breker
were the top riders at the CMC Golden State MX Series at Lake Madera,
California… We showed you some of the hottest four-stroke motocross
bikes from the AMA Four-Stroke Nationals… We featured hard-core touring
veteran Bobby Gambill.

FEBRUARY 6, 1980
We covered the first-ever motocross race at Perris Raceway and to
celebrate, we pictured an out-of-control Husqvarna rider from the Perris
races on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. Mark Blackwell, Billy
Clements, Don Emler, Darryl Bassini, Jim Fishback and Jim West
were some of the track's first winners… Ascot Park was back in action
for the first time in the new year with a TT that was packed with talented
racers, such as winner Eddie Mulder, Don Emde, Gene Romero and
Skip Van Leeuwen.
