IIIMY OWN RACE: 6 ANDREW SHORT 10TH PLACE "I'm really happy to get to the end of this year's Dakar—it's been a long race, good fun, but very tough for me, I had a lot of challenges," said the former supercross and motocross star. "The first week in the north was beau ful— I've never raced anywhere like it. I had some issues in those first few days that really put me on the back foot for the rest of the event. It took a lot out of me as you prepare all year for this race, and to have such a big knock so early on was tough. This is only my third Da- kar, and I'm s ll learning. A two-week event like this is certainly different from a one-week world champion- ship event, and you have to be able to gauge your speed the whole way through. I definitely want to be back here next year for Dakar 2021." 59 SKYLER HOWES 9TH PLACE "We made it! All I can say is thank you to everyone for the encouragement, the support, and all the love," said Sky- ler (Klymciw Racing) on his Instagram. "Coming home with a ninth overall fin- ish at the Dakar Rally is a dream come true. And to top it off, I was able to win the privateer category, being the first non-factory elite racer. Thank you to Garre Poucher, and the mechanics keeping me in it. And a big thank you OFF-ROAD 42ND DAKAR RALLY JANUARY 5-17, 2020 SAUDI ARABIA P72 Toby Price had a monumental Dakar and took third overall. Stage Three The win also marked the first time KTM has been beaten in the Dakar in an incredible 18 years, a win streak that is very unlikely ever to be broken. "This is a great result for Honda, who have been trying to achieve this target since 2013," said HRC Director, Tetsuhiro Kuwata. "We have to thank everybody who has been involved in this project since then, especially Paulo Goncalves, who was a great professional and a good rider. We wish to thank Across 12 stages, Brabec's scorecard reads 2-11-1-5-4-1-5-4- 2-10-2, with Stage Eight canceled as a mark of respect to former HRC teammate Paulo Goncalves, who was fatally injured following a crash on Stage Seven (see side- bar). That gave Brabec a healthy 16-minute, 26-second advantage at the final flag ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Rac- ing's Pablo Quintanilla and two- time Dakar champion, Red Bull KTM's Toby Price.
