IIIMY OWN RACE:
his heat race and the main event
in Missouri, and he managed to
land second place and maintain the
points lead going into round three
back in Anaheim. "Last weekend, I
had it pre y easy," Cooper said. "I
was out front just clicking off my
laps. Definitely a lot to learn this
weekend, definitely a lot of pass-
ing. But it's good for me. It's good
to put myself in those posi ons. You
obviously don't want to be there, but
you learn a lot from it. I was able to
watch the leader and just keep my
eye on where they were going and
not let them get too far ahead. But
they didn't push hard enough in the
middle part of the race. I felt like I
didn't leave it all out there, but it was
a smart ride all-in-all."
alty that left him with fifth place on
the night. In his hometown race in
St. Louis, Missouri, Forkner again
grabbed the holeshot, but this
time he finished the job like he
wished he had at Anaheim.
Forkner had to hold off the
early advances of Geico Honda's
16-year-old rookie Jett Lawrence
early in the main event, then had
to do likewise to keep round-one
winner Justin Cooper (Monster
Energy/Star Racing Yamaha)
behind him at the finish, but he
got the win by just under two sec-
onds over Cooper, with Brandon
Hartranft (TLD/Red Bull KTM)
capitalizing on crashes from both
Lawrence and his Geico Honda
teammate Christian Craig late
in the race to land third place.
Hartranft just held off Alex Martin
(JGR/Yoshimura Suzuki Factory
Racing) at the finish. Lawrence
finished fifth despite the fall and
pulling into the mechanics' area.
Defending champion Dylan
Ferrandis went down in the first
rhythm section after the start
when an error by Martin caused
Michael Mosiman (Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna) to careen into
Ferrandis. The two went down
hard, and Ferrandis had to enter
