A Racer's Diary I really enjoyed Melissa Paris' article on the Bol d'Or in the last issue. It seems to me that endurance racing of any sort produces quite a lot of story lines, and the view from the inside is really illuminat- ing and entertaining. More of this please. David Pierce Thank you for the Bold d'Or story. It was an enjoyable read. It just goes to show that often times when it comes to racing, there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than what you see on the track. Stories like these provide great insight. Thanks again. Thad Riboli Archives: Formula 750 It was a pleasure to read Larry Lawrence's take on the F750 Championship. I especially val- ued the tribute to America's first Road Racing World Champion Steve Baker, the most underap- preciated U.S. champion. Living on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain until its collapse in 1989, I first learned about Steve Baker from the iconic Take It to the Limit (1979) documentary. I will always remember Steve sitting on a plane on his way to the Anglo-American Match Race Series and the voiceover after he won the Race of the Year at Mallory Park: "Steve didn't come thousands of miles to finish second." I met Steve, a true gentleman, at the Sachsenring few years ago. He signed my DVD copy of the movie, of course. Greetings from the Czech Republic. Kiril Ianatchkov Boy, do I miss those days. Grids filed with international stars, stands packed with fans. I was there. David Crosbysliver Honda CBR1000RR SP Japan should be aware that it is illegal in the United States to hinder a wheelie. $20,000 and you can't do a proper wheelie? Gary Ritts 2020 H-D Super- Twins Team I sure want to see H-D close the gap to Indian (as well as other makes), but even with what I thought were significant rule changes for 2019 to even the playing field, that didn't seem to happen. No other factories have a purpose-built (racing) engine and frame, right? Wouldn't be surprised to find Sammy Halbert (and Brandon Robinson) on customer Indians for 2020, given that bike's suc- cess. Finally, cross our fingers, here comes KTM and their 790! Bob Close (Left) Steve Baker
