Brayton Crowned King of Geneva Supercross
J
ustin Brayton cap-
tured his sixth career
King of Geneva Super-
cross crown when he
topped the field in the
overall standings after
two nights of racing,
December 6-7.
However, the week-
end started off look-
ing as though Martin
Davalos would dethrone
the Geneva champ,
Brayton, after dominat-
ing Friday's first night of
racing. Davalos won his
heat race and beat Jus-
tin Barcia and Brayton
in head-to-head racing,
then he finished off the
night by winning the main event
wire to wire.
Barcia ended up second in
the final. By the time he got
there, Davalos was already long
gone, so Barcia had to settle for
runner-up honors.
Brayton, meanwhile, didn't
have the best of starts and had
to work his way up through the
field. He ended up third.
A trio of Honda riders fol-
lowed Brayton across the finish
line, headed by Justin Hill then
teammates Malcolm Stewart and
Vince Friese.
French riders Cedric Soubey-
ras, Jordi Tixier, Fabien Izoird
and Thomas Ramette completed
the top eight.
American Joey Crown (KTM)
won the SX2 final ahead of Ger-
man Brian Hsu and Frenchman
Calvin Fonvielle.
A simple fall in the main event
on night two cost Davalos a
chance at the overall win. The
Kawasaki rider was leading the
race when he lost the front end
in a sandy turn and went down,
handing the lead to Brayton and
second to Barcia.
Brayton held off Barcia the
rest of the way to take the win.
Davalos, meanwhile, got up in
fourth after his fall but managed
to get one position back when
he got around Hill, but it wasn't
enough to prevent Brayton from
taking the overall victory, with
Brayton's 3-1 topping Davalos'
1-3.
Barcia was third overall with
his 2-2 results.
Stewart took fourth on the
night as well as in the overall
category, with Soubeyras taking
fifth on the night and fifth overall.
American Joey Crown took the
SX2-class win over Brian Hsu
and Haken Fredriksen. Crown's
1-1 results netted him the overall
victory and Prince of Geneva
honors. CN
