IN THE WIND P38 Dungey Talks Life, Career Changes R yan Dungey, one of most successful supercross/moto- cross riders of his era surprised most race fans and industry insiders by announcing that he has become a co-owner of the Geico Honda race team. Dungey retired just after winning his fourth supercross championship in 2017. Dungey also won three 450 outdoor MX championships, as well as the 2009 250 SX Lites and 250 Pro Motocross titles. In the two and a half years since he retired, he continued to work with KTM as a brand ambassa- dor. We recently caught up with Dungey at the 2020 Honda team introductions to learn more about how this new development came about what he hopes to bring to the team and sport in his new role. Ryan, you announced this last week that you are now co-owner of the Geico Honda Factory Connection team. How did that came about? It was a long process. I would have to say it started probably after I finished racing. Not the discussion, so much, but more the questioning and trying to figure out what is next for me. Because I wasn't sure within the sport and career-wise. So, after trying some roles for a few years and just trying to experience dif- ferent areas that I haven't really been a part of as a racer, which were good, ultimately, things led to some discussions with Jeff [Majkrzak] and Ziggy [Rick Zielf- elder]. When they offered up the possible opportunity [to become a co-owner], I was like, you know what, that may be a good fit. I would say it was a couple weeks of thinking on it, but I feel like this could be a really good next chapter for me. Since you retired from rac- ing, you continued to work with KTM as a brand ambas- sador, but it seems like you haven't been at the races much. Will you be back at the track every week or will it be just some of the races? My involvement will be more than I have had these past couple of years. With Jeff and Ziggy, we're going to be able to split things up a little bit. We have a great group of people, great structure within the team, the staff and the personalities of the mechanics and every- thing. So, I feel like that helps
