IN THE WIND P34 Justin Brayton Wins Australian SX Championship A merican Justin Brayton came out on top of the 2019 Mon- ster Energy AUS-X Open Super- cross results, November 30, and earned his fourth consecutive Australian Supercross Champion- ship. Brayton came into the race, the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship, be- hind Australian Luke Clout in the championship points standings. So, he needed a strong result to keep his Australian champion- ship streak alive. Brayton took the overall win in the three-moto format with 1-2-3 scores. "I'm stoked I got the win," Brayton said from the podium. "The last few weeks have been so tough, so to get this cham- pionship means a lot. I love this country, thank you so much for welcoming me, and I hope that I've done your country proud coming over here and winning four straight." As for Clout, he set the fastest qualifying time in the afternoon and looked set to wrestle the championship away from Bray- ton. But he had 10-3-7 moto finishes for seventh overall, still enough to finish second in the championship. Second overall for the night went to Rockstar Husqvarna's Ja- son Anderson. The 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Cham- pion was taken down by Chad Reed in the first of the three motos and ended up seventh. He came back to win the next two motos and finish second overall on the night. Anderson, however, didn't come away empty handed, as his second-place overall results netted him the FIM Oceania Champion- ship (a combination of races in New Zealand and Australia), saying afterward, "This title is sweet, it's rad I was able to get it done. The track was slick, racing was tight, but my Rockstar Husky was locked in. Thanks to all the AME boys for putting this on. I love coming down under, and really plan on doing it for sometime to come." Third place went to another American, Josh Hill. The former Yamaha factory rider raced a Yamaha to impressive 3-4-2 fin- ishes. Australian Brett Metcalf fin- ished fourth with 4-6-4 finishes. Chad Reed rounded out the top five with 2-7-5 moto scores. In the SX2 (250cc) class, American Mitchell Oldenburg took the overall win with 1-5-1 moto scores. His fellow American teammate, Chris Blose, finished second overall with 2-1-4 scores and earned the championship. Jay Wilson rounded out the podium with 3-2-3 scores. Jett Lawrence, the young Australian that is racing in the U.S. for the Geico Honda team finished fourth overall with 4-3-2 finishes. Regan Duffy rounded out the top five with 9-6-6 moto scores.
