IN THE WIND P52 Suzuki Revamps The V-Strom T he big news from Suzuki is the introduction of its new V-Strom 1050 series which was introduced last week at the EICMA show. The V-Strom 1050 replaces the 1000cc series, and not only did the full-size V-Strom get a larger displacement, but also major updates throughout. There will be three variants of the V-Strom 1050: the 1050, 1050XT and 1050XT Adventure. Suzuki claims the increased displacement gives the new 1050s noticeably more power. And with the new motor comes and updated electronics rider aid system. The XT range (XT and XT Adventure) takes it a little farther by offering S.I.R.S—Suzuki Intelli- gent Ride System. S.I.R.S is, according to Suzuki, is interconnected to a new ECM via a Controller Area Network (CAN) wire harness that quickly transmits information from a new six-direction, three-axis IMU. The S.I.R.S. includes Cruise Control via new Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle bodies. The updated Motion Track Antilock and Combined Brake System now includes a Hill Hold Control system to aid the rider when stopped uphill while the Slope Dependent Control System helps manage braking force to avoid rear-wheel lift when rid- ing downhill. The Motion Track Brake System also includes a Load Dependent Control System that monitors and retains braking information to optimize braking force when riding with a passen- ger or heavy cargo. The fully loaded XT Adventure features quick-release aluminum panniers and heated handgrips that the other two models do not offer. Pricing and availability have not been announced. CN Suzuki steps it up with the new V-Strom 1050 series.
