IN THE WIND P46 Harley-Davidson Reveals Revolution Max 60° V-twin Engine H arley-Davidson used EICMA to take the wraps off the new Revolution Max 60° V-twin motor that will power the 1250cc Pan America adventure motorcycle, as well as the 975cc Bronx streetfighter. The new liquid-cooled 975cc and 1250cc Revolution Max engine has a narrow profile that is integrated into the bike as a stressed member of the frame to enhance center of gravity and handling. The fully balanced powertrain has an internal counterbalancer that mitigates primary engine vibration to enhance rider comfort and improve vehicle durability. In 1250cc guise, the Revolu- tion Max produces 145 horse- power and 90 lb-ft of torque, while in 975cc format, the motor produces 115 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque. We'll know more about the actual motorcycles the Revolution Max powers when they are of- ficially unveiled later this year. CN Harley introduced its new power plant at EICMA. Aprilia Debuts RS 250 SP And New Junior C'ship A prilia used the EICMA Show in Milan to launch a brand- new machine and championship. In conjunction with manufacturer Ohvale, Aprilia has created the RS 250 SP racer for the new Ital- ian FMI Aprilia Sport Production Championship for riders 11 years old and up. If all this sounds familiar, it is. The FMI Aprilia Sport Production Championship ran for a num- ber of years in the early 1990s using Aprilia RS125 two-stroke machines, helping to launch the careers of Valentino Rossi, Max Biaggi, Manuel Poggiali and Marco Melandri, with Australian Casey Stoner using an RS125 in the British Championship. Aprilia's new venture is a joint partnership with Ohvale, who will supply the chassis, while Aprilia supplies the 250cc single-cylin- der four-stroke motor. The motorcycle will run 17-inch Marchesini wheels, Brembo brakes and Ohlins/Sachs sus- pension, with Aprilia using the platform to not only find the next rising star in Italy but also to try and rekindle youth enthusiasm for motorcycle racing. No word yet on when—or if— the machine will make it to the U.S., although don't bet against it as the Ohvale craze is currently sweeping the nation. CN Aprilia hopes to unearth new talent with the new Aprilia RS 250 SP motorcycle.
