VOLUME 56 ISSUE 44 NOVEMBER 5, 2019 P45 Second place rider Adam Bon- neur is also no stranger to this event. Bonneur grew up just a couple miles away from the Bike Barn and has ridden the series since he was on a minibike. Now with a new baby girl and wife by his side, Bonneur considers him- self a semi-retired racer. "With it being basically in my backyard, it makes it kind of tough not to race," said Bonneur. "I think this is my first one with- out Jimmy Jarrett [in the field]. It definitely feels a little strange go- ing out there and doing it without him. All of us local guys show up for this one, so everybody's here, and it's still fun. We actually raced three laps today, and we don't normally do that. The whole first lap, I think there were maybe 20 or 30 of us just play riding. We did get lost there a little bit, but it wasn't for too long. We picked up the trail right away." Bonneur said the lead changed throughout the first lap. "One guy would fall down, and he would get shuffled back," Bon- neur said. "You would get to a really technical, tight section, somebody would find a good line, and they would swap places. The first lap was a lot of fun, and it didn't take a lot of energy out of us. As soon as we got back from the first lap, we fueled up and took off after everybody on the second lap. That's when the race started for me. I crashed in a swamp on the second lap. I landed on my back in about six inches of water, so that was pretty cold. I got back from that second lap and changed gloves. I think all I had left to chase down was Shane and Cody. I didn't really see them until the last half of the last lap. That's when I finally got a glimpse of Shane, so the race was on then. I ended up catching him and finishing second. It was a crazy day. Cody got wrapped up in some fence. Then I know he stopped to help Bill Gusse because Bill had flipped his quad out there. It was a crazy eventful day. I kind of got to ride with a lot of people, and that made it fun. You don't always get to see your buddies, so it was a lot of fun." Klimek, who traditionally has trouble with his machine lasting for the entire event, had a ter- rific ride today. He said, "I never led one more than about 20 feet before. It was definitely interest- ing. I just got tired in the middle of the last lap. People were cheer- ing me on, and I kept plugging along." Klimek did have a unique challenge late in the third lap. According to Klimek, "Cody went across the bridge there, and lo and behold, there comes a giant tractor pulling a whole bunch of [stuff]. I had to sit there and wait. It kind of lit my fire a little bit." After the tractor and grain wagon cleared the bridge, Klimek continued across the bridge, but Bonneur now had a glimpse of him, so, the battle heated up to the finish, with Bonneur narrowly beating Klimek to the line with a gap of just 24 seconds after four hours and 10 minutes of racing. John Gasso PRO 1. Cody Barnes (Bet) 2. Adam Bonneur (Suz) 3. Shane Klimek (Suz) 4. Colten Zuidema (KTM) 5. Colt Converse (Yam) 6. Tanner Whipple (KTM) 7. Matt McDonald (KTM) 8. Austin Wells (Hus) 9.
