Rossi's consolation was a new lap record. Vinales was thrilled. "I felt like I'd won in Australia, but didn't finish the race," he said. "But it meant we ar- rived here with things very clear. We prepared really well for the race, and I knew I had good potential. "All year, we have been working to improve my feeling and the bike. When new parts came, we stayed with the old ones to carry on work- ing." It was now paying off, he said. Like almost all rostrum finishers, he dedicated his victory to the "the kid who died yesterday," Indonesian rider Afridzar Munandar, who crashed in Saturday's Asia Talent Cup race. "He was my favorite in that series. My condolence to all the family."
