Redding Seals British Superbike Championship
S
cott Redding captured the
2019 British Superbike Cham-
pionship in his rookie season,
besting Be Wiser Ducati team-
mate Josh Brookes in the series
finale at Brands Hatch, October
19-20.
Brookes was inch perfect at
Brands, taking pole position
and all three race wins ahead of
Ducati's Tommy Bridewell and
Redding in race one, and Red-
ding and Bridewell in race two,
and Bridewell and Redding again
in race three. But it was former
MotoGP rider Redding who had
to fight back from ninth on the
grid each race after missing out
on Q3. He finished a scant five
points clear at the meeting's con-
clusion, as he sets off to replace
Alvaro Bautista in the factory
Ducati WorldSBK team for 2020.
"I've had a lot of emotion—su-
per happy, super proud and it is
good to pay back everyone who
has supported me through all my
years in GP and my first year here
in BSB," said Redding.
"A lot of people doubted me to
win the championship in my first
year. I knew deep inside I could
do it even though I broke my
femur one month before the first
test of the year; I didn't let it hold
me back."
American Brandon Paasch
(KTM) also made it a double
victory in the final round of the
British Motostar (Moto3) Champi-
onship at Brands Hatch to finish
off the season. The race-one
victory saw Paasch seal the 2019
Motostar title, the first time an
American has taken the British
Moto3 title win. CN
