ever mind wave of the weekend. Moto2 rider
Alex Marquez took the crown from his elder
brother on Saturday morning at Motegi with the
save of the century.
The Moto2 title leader was splash-
ing through the final corner when
the rear stepped out by around
90 degrees, then caught. He was
flung feet-high and nose kissing the
number on the front of the screen
but still clinging to the clip-ons. He
came down on the left of the bike,
managed to elbow himself halfway
back over the fuel tank and some-
how managed to bring the bike to a
safe stop.
He was as flummoxed as anyone as to how he
did it. "Something from the sky," he said.

Lecuona Tipped For KTM MotoGP
A
ccording to Italian website GPone.com, Iker
Lecuona has been offered the MotoGP ride left
vacant by Johann Zarco at Red Bull KTM for 2020.
The 19-year-old Spaniard is contracted to the Red
Bull Ajo Team for 2020, and he was in line to take
Brad Binder's place in Moto2 as the latter moves up
to the premier class in place of the departing Hafiz
Syahrin in the Red Bull Tech3 KTM team. The Ajo
team currently operates the factory KTM Moto2 and
Moto3 teams but will change chassis manufacturers
in Moto2 after KTM decided to withdraw from that
series after the 2019 season.
Now it appears Lecuona will jump straight to Mo-
toGP, although it is not yet clear if he will be promot-
ed to the senior Red Bull KTM outfit alongside Pol
Espargaro or at Tech3, where current rider Miguel
Oliveira has a one-year contract extension in place.
Currently, factory test rider Mika Kallio is filling the seat left by Zarco at Red Bull
KTM, and although he has voiced his preference for a full race seat in 2020, Red
Bull KTM motorsport manager Pit Beirer has stated he wants to keep Kallio in his
role as tester, as his input is crucial to the development of the RC16. CN
