2013 DUCATI HYPERMOTARD 821
The new
Hypermotard:
Another version of
the hooligan bike
from Italy. It really
is all-new and it's
been toned down a
tad to make it more
rideable.
in the case of engines, for example, we are working more and
more on improving the rideability. There's a lot of development
done in the area of improving
combustion and its stability at low
speed and low rpm, in order to
have an easier experience in using the engine. It's using different
steps of the 11º overlap concept
– that's one step, and there will
be more like that in order to have
an engine that, even when going
very slowly, will be very pleasant
to use - regular and steady, without any vibration or transmission
snatch."
This philosophy exactly sum-
marizes the rationale for the creation of the Hypermotard's new
821cc Testastretta 11º engine,
which at 88mm x 67.5mm is
the longest stroke of any Ducati
eight-valve engine yet made - in
spite of having the smallest capacity.
That's been done to achieve a
similar amount of the rideability
and general user-friendliness that
Ducati's air-cooled desmodue
family of engines is renowned for,
says Sabbioni, while at the same
time allied with pleasing performance.
Ducati claims an output of 110
horsepower at 9250 rpm for the
