Herfoss Heats Up ASBK
C
urrent Australian Superbike
Champion Troy Herfoss
(Honda) took a huge step to-
wards securing his third career
ABSK title by taking 2-1 results
at the penultimate round of the
series at Phillip Island, October
5-6.
Herfoss conceded to title rival
Wayne Maxwell (Suzuki) in race
one but came out the winner in
a hectic last lap in race two after
changing positions with leader
Maxwell multiple times.
"That was the first time I've
ridden around this track, and felt
like I could earn a win," Herfoss
said. "It was really hard out in
front, and Wayne did a great job;
he's so fast around this track,
and I didn't know if I would be
able to get him. I didn't want to
have to pass him into the Hay-
shed, I wanted to be in front from
Turn 1, but the wind was so heavy
out of turn two I got a wobble up
and couldn't open the throttle; I
just knew he was going to fight
back."
Herfoss is holding a slender
three-point lead on 241 over
Maxwell on 238 with Mike Jones
(Ducati) third on 236.5. CN
Troy Herfoss (1)
now sits atop the
ASBK tree with one
round remaining.
