IN THE WIND P44 Honda Working On Head Up Display A patent filed by Honda has revealed it is working on a Head Up Display that uses the motorcycle's windscreen as an extension of the dashboard. Dashes in recent years have gone through a complete trans- formation going from analog tachs with speed, rev counter and oil temp gauges to full digital platforms with multiple layers of information. The 2020 BMW S 1000 RR being one of the more information-rich units on the market. With the limited space a dash can use and their use clunky with riding gloves, and the seemingly endless amount of information it can hold, Honda thinks the prob- lem can be best solved by using the windscreen itself as a display in much the same way the aircraft industry has done for many years. Uncovered by Bikesocial's UK journalist Ben Purvis, Honda's patent uses an Africa Twin as an example, which, with its mas- sive windscreen, is the ideal platform for an expanded HUD system. It also notes bikes like the CBR1000RR, with its tilted back screen, would make it dif- ficult for the HUD to work, and have thus suggested mounting a touchpad screen atop the fuel tank. It would then no longer be an HUD, but still give much more room to move and navigate through the various options than what is currently available. Of course, this is till just in patent form. No prototypes—let alone production—units are ready, but don't be surprised to see this tech appearing on bikes in the coming years. CN Cars have had Head Up Display units for a number of years, now it appears the tech may be coming to bikes. and Palmer, and from that point on, the new leader put it on cruise control. McDonal is a very smooth racer and has the experience to go only as fast as he needs. In this case, he used that experience perfectly. After two hours of racing, he took the checkered flag leading the way. Settling for second was Palm- er, and then line Justin Lafferty (KTM) crossed the finish in third. Justin Lafferty made a pass on his uncle on lap three and held that position until the end. Mike had to settle for fourth. Unfortunately for Bush, he ended up fifth on the day and second on the year, which is something to be proud of. Justin Lafferty finished out the season in third place. Beta nabbed a second championship with Rachel Gut- ish claiming the Women's A/B number-one plate. In the morning C event, the young guns of the C-200 and Schoolboy classes set the pace. Josh Klouchek (KTM 150) started towards the rear of the starting grid in C-200. In rows two and three, the Schoolboy 1-2 Teens followed. Remington "The Rock" Platt (KTM), starting from row three, established the overall early lead but Klouchek slowly moved his way to the front and held on for the C-class win.
