McDonal Wraps Up SRT AMA East Hare
Scrambles Championship
M
ore than 530 racers came out to play
in the dust at the final round of the
AMA East HS in Millville, New Jersey, Oc-
tober 5-6. The lack of rain contributed to
the worst dust anyone in the area had seen
in a long time.
In the main event, "Wild" Wally Palmer,
aboard his newly acquired Kawasaki,
claimed the holeshot. Palmer, back from
knee surgery, was supposed to take it
easy, or so he said. Behind him was slew
of who's who in East-Coast racing, includ-
ing Mike Lafferty (KTM), and Kyle McDonal
(Beta) and Hunter Bush (Yamaha) who
were vying for the highly coveted SRT AMA
East number-one plate.
Going into the final race of the season
and trailing McDonal by just a few points,
Bush was hoping to finish a couple of posi-
tions ahead of McDonal.
McDonal, however, only needed to finish
the race to take the year-end overall. Mc-
Donal was also nursing three broken toes
from the previous Oklahoma race.
After lap one, it was Palmer still in the
lead, with Lafferty in pursuit. Beta-mounted
McDonal was behind him by just under a
minute but still in the dust. There were only
a few key locations that
the riders could attempt
a safe and effective pass
because of the dust.
On lap two, McDonal
passed both Lafferty
