Cipala Tops Carnegie Classic Hillclimb
L
ogan Cipala, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, won the 2019 IRC Motoclimb Super Series Championship
over the October 5-6 weekend at the final round in California.
The IRC Carnegie Classic, Presented by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, hosted the last round of
the coast-to-coast series, and it came down to the final 450cc main between Cipala and Austin "Super-
fly" Teyler, of Billings, Montana, to determine the Champion. Cipala entered the weekend with a six-
point lead over Teyler, but with Teyler finishing second in the Open class and Cipala getting sixth, Teyler
had a one-point advantage going into the 450cc main.
Cipala had the lane choice from qualifying and pulled ahead of Teyler to win the championship by
only two points. Joe Shipman, Cottonwood, California, took the event overall win and finished third in
the MSS Championship, clinching his spot on the 2020 USA Motoclimb Team, where the four-member
team will be competing in France next summer.
Off-road legend Destry Abbott also competed in what was his first Motoclimb event, finishing fifth in
the 450cc main and winning the 40+ class aboard a big-bore KTM. Colton Haaker, Rich Larsen, Craig
Thompson and the Riordan brothers were some of the other EnduroCross athletes to try their hand at
Motoclimb racing for the first time.
