Eddie Lawson, with tuner Erv Kanemoto, was pictured on the cover of
Cycle News 30 years ago after wrapping up his fourth 500cc Road Race
World Championship in Brazil… Broome-Tioga Sports Center hosted the
125/500cc National MX round in Binghamton. Damon Bradshaw won the
125cc class and Jeff Stanton the 500cc class… Duane Conner won the
Buckeye GNCC in Waterford, Ohio, after dueling with Mark Hyde for much
of the race… Denny Stephenson
won the Denver Ultracross…
England won the Speedway World
Team Cup in England.

On the cover 20 years ago we spotlighted some of the international team
events that happened all across the globe, and one of those was the
Motocross des Nations from Brazil. Team Italy took the win for its first time with
riders Andrea Bartolini, Alessio Chiodi and Claudio Federici. Team USA—
Kevin Windham, Mike LaRocco and Ricky Carmichael—placed fourth…
Team Finland won the ISDE in Portugal, with Team USA—Brian Garrahan,
Russ Pearson, Ty Davis, Destry Abbott, Pat Garrahan and Randy
Hawkins—finishing sixth… We covered the AMA Grand Championship Road
Race from Loudon where Jason DiSalvo was the big winner.
