Carver had his hands full, as
Bryan Smith (Crosley Brands/
Howerton Motorsports, Kawa-
saki Ninja 650) was making a
strong challenge. The two ex-
changed second several times
before Smith took over. Bauman
had returned to the high line
that had served him so well last
year but had bitten him earlier.
On lap 11, Bauman took second
but was still almost five seconds
behind Mees.
Not to be denied, Smith, who
had been fighting with someone
the whole race fought back and
retook second on lap 13. Briar
Bauman and Smith actually
made contact in the last turn of
the final lap. Smith claimed his
best finish of the year in second.
Bauman was less than 0.2 of
a second back with Carver not
quite a second behind Smith.
With his win, Mees gained
eight points, but it was not
enough, and Bauman's 27-point
advantage with one race remain-
ing gives him the 2019 AFT Twins
Championship.
Henry Wiles (Bandit Indus-
tries/DPC Racing/Wilco Rac-
ing, Indian FTR750) was a solid
fifth as the remainder of the field
scattered. Bronson Bauman
came from the back to finish
sixth. Brandon Robinson, Jarod
Vanderkooi (Harley-Davidson/
Vance & Hines, Harley-Davidson
STILL GOING
Both the AFT Singles and the AFT
Production Twins championships
are still up for grabs. Dalton Gauth-
ier has a 21-point lead over defend-
ing Singles Champion Dan Bromley.
Despite his win, Mikey Rush has
been eliminated from the battle, as
he is 26 points out in third. Cory
Texter has maintained his lead in
the Production Twins class for the
whole year and has a 15-point lead
over Kolby Carlile, with Ryan Varnes
also still in the mix, just three points
behind Carlile.
BACK TO H-D
Brandon Robinson was left look-
ing for a ride after Kennedy Racing
closed down for the rest of the year.
He landed back with the Harley-
Davidson Motor Company/Vance &
Hines team. He made the most of it
by running in the lead pack early in
the AFT Twins main and came away
with a seventh-place finish.
Briefly...
(Left) Bauman and Bryan Smith (4)
fought over second place. Smith
came out ahead, but Bauman's third
place was just enough to clinch the
championship. (Below) Bauman's
crew played a major role in his
championship after they put his bike
back together following an early
multi-rider crash.
