The fact the track needed to be tended to proved to be a godsend for Bauman and others attempting to make it back for the restart. The extended time allowed Michele DiSalvo and Dave Zanotti to virtu- ally rebuild Briar's Indian. Due to the long delay and a track curfew, the race was short- ened to 15 laps. There were 13 remaining riders (Brandon Price and Stephen Vanderkuur were unable to make repairs, and Jake Johnson (Estenson Racing/Mon- ster Energy, Yamaha MT-07) opted not to restart. Carver again got the holeshot in attempt number two, but it was quickly aborted when James Monaco (Pure Crop 1/Rod Lake Racing, Indian FTR750) and Jay Maloney (Indian of Charlotte/JMC, Indian FTR750) fell down the back straight. Maloney would return to the pits while Monaco had to be transported to the hospital. Carver made it three for three on starts and led the first official lap. Mees knew exactly what he had to do and quickly dispatched Carver and started to open a gap. Briar Bauman had been forced to start from the rear of the field, but his job was made somewhat easier when only 11 riders an- swered the bell for the last restart. Mees was pulling away, and IIIMY OWN RACE: 1 JARED MEES 1ST AFT TWINS "I did everything I could today. I came here and fast qualified it. I won my semi and sat on the pole for the main. I won the main, just everything I could do," said Jared Mees. "Briar rode phenomenally all season long. He deserves the number-one plate, free and clear. Their whole team worked well. It was awesome to see a good friend of mine win the plate. It's hard to come out and dominate two straight years like we did and lose it, but the best guy won. I know one thing; it will definitely make me hungry. For the main, they over watered the track. It was too ski ery. There was no trac on. It was like ice the first couple laps. You would go in and be losing the front end and bringing the rear around and losing the rear end. I'm glad that I didn't get caught up in the wreck. I was close to it. That's the way it works some mes. On the first couple laps of the final, I rode kind of tenta ve. I just didn't know what was going on and then I kind of relaxed.
