Wilson Wins
Montreal
Supercross
D
ean Wilson, of the Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna Team,
came away the big winner at
the Montreal Supercross held
at Olympic Stadium in Montreal,
Canada, September 14.
The Montreal Supercross was
once one of the largest indoor
races in the world and included
racing for buggies and ATVs. The
event ceased operation for a few
years and was brought back to
life last year with Malcolm Stew-
art taking the win.
For 2019, Stewart was back for
his first race since breaking his
femur at the Glendale, Arizona
Supercross in January. Wilson
and Justin Brayton were the other
regular Monster Energy AMA Su-
percross riders racing along with
most of the riders that regularly
compete in the Canadian Rock-
star Energy Triple Crown Series.
The Montreal race uses a
three-moto format, and Wilson
came out on top of the overall
results with 1-3-1 moto scores.
Stewart finished second with 2-1-
5 finishes on his Smartop/Moto-
Concepts/Bullfrog Spas Honda.
Stewart's chance for the over-
all was ruined by a first-turn crash
in the final moto.
His teammate, Brayton,
finished third overall with 3-4-2
moto scores.
Phil Nicoletti was the top
finisher among the riders regu-
larly competing in the Rockstar
Energy Triple Crown Series
with strong 4-2-3 results on his
Yamaha. He placed just ahead of
his main title rival Cole Thompson
(KTM).
Nicoletti was the early leader in
the first 13-lap race, but Wilson,
who started off in fourth place,
charged up through the pack and
took over the lead on lap eight,
with Nicoletti dropping back to
