LOOKING BACK
Kenny Roberts clinched his second 500cc World Championship title at
the French Grand Prix at Le Mans. We also reported that Bernie Schrieber
had won the Observed Trials World Championship in Czechoslovakia…
We covered the Motocross des Nations in Finland, where Team Belgium
captured the win with riders Andre Malherbe, Harry Everts, and Roger
DeCoster. Dutch riders Gerard Rond and Gerrit Wolsink took the wins in
the two-moto format. USA did not field a team… Terry Poovey took the win
at the Meadow Lands Half Mile on his 21st birthday.

Not sure what's going on here on the cover 50 years ago but that's Keith
Mashburn (at the controls) and Dave Aldana having some fun on Keith's
minibike while attending the Tulare Half-Mile. When things got serious,
it was Lloyd Houchins who won the Expert main, while Mashburn held
off Aldana to win the Amateur main… We covered the Motocross des
Nations in England. Team Belgium took the win with members Joel
Robert, Roger DeCoster, Jaak van Velthoven and Sylvan Geboers.
Sweden took second followed by Great Britain.
