Injured Rider Brandon Winfield
Creates Accessibility App
O
n April 6, 2008, then 14-year-old Brandon Winfield lined up for his moto
in School Boy 2 at Great River MX in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Before
the end of the first lap, his life changed forever. That day ended with the
news that he would never walk again. For most of us, that news would be
devastating, but it didn't seem to change Brandon or his infectious per-
sonality. Even after that tragic day, he still went to the races to hang out
with his friends, and the huge smile that was always on his face before
the accident was still there.
That spirit and personality shine through with
the work that the now 26-year-old Winfield does
to help others with impairments. Brandon is the
founder and creator of iAccess Life, which is a
mobile crowdsourcing application that allows
users to rate and review locations based on their
accessibility. This app will allow other people
with impairments, who are not so confident to
discover new possibilities stress-free. Imagine
going to a new restaurant for the first time and not
even knowing if you'll be able to get through the
door, or up the stairs, or if you'll be able to use the
restrooms. These are challenges that people like
Brandon face every day, everywhere they go.
"Our focus is to grow into a mobile lifestyle ap-
plication that allows users with any sort of impair-
ment, access to life. We want things to be fun, and
we don't want you to feel like you have an impair-
ment when you visit our application. It's all about
what you can do to get out and have a good time
with your friends and loved ones," says Winfield,
"and everyone can contribute."
If you've been around motorcycle racing very
long at all, chances are you know someone who
can benefit from the information that you and your
friends can provide. Download the iAccess Life
app today and help Brandon and others access
life by checking the boxes every time you visit a
restaurant, sporting venue, bar, whatever. All of
us can contribute. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/
