Day Of Champions Celebrate 30th Anniversary M otoGP "reaffirmed its vows" with its official charity Two Wheels for Life (TWfL), which supports the seven independent country programs of Riders for Health (RfH) in Africa. Such out- reach improves the health and well being of about 25 million people. It also shows what RfH and TWfL co-founders Andrea Cole- man, Barry Coleman and ex-GP racer Randy Mamola discussed with Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna (which controls MotoGP and World SuperBike) at the Silverstone MotoGP, August 22. Andrea Coleman summed up what husband Barry and Mamola observed in Somalia in 1989: "Health care in vast Africa is not just about doctors and nurses. It's about transport! It's about Africans teaching Africans to change oil filters." Mr. Ezpeleta said, "Silverstone Day of Champions is very impor- tant to Dorna." Coleman replied, "We were at the British GP before you, but Dorna taught us about big cam- eras and organizing the day." Mamola said motorcyclists understand how to maintain two- and four-wheel vehicles to reach remote villages—without break- downs, "but without the love of motorcycles we share with this Day of Champions crowd, we wouldn't get anywhere." Special guest was Ken Diko, Riders director in The Gambia. Diko explained building "sus- tainability" into their work. "We have seven women high school graduates learning mechanics in our Technical Training Institute," Diko said. "Even if they leave our organization, their knowledge will remain."
