VOLUME 56 ISSUE 34 AUGUST 27, 2019 P97 BACK FROM THE DEAD After the AMA announced in early June that the 2019 EnduroCross series was canceled, it appeared that the extreme indoor off-road series that has made Taddy Blazusiak, Cody Webb, and Colton Haaker household names to motorcycle racing fans around the world was dead. But the quote attributed to Mark Twain, "the reports of my death are greatly exag- gerated," can be applied to Enduro- Cross. Eric Peronnard, the founder of EnduroCross, created a partnership with Tod Hammock, the promoter of the Kicker Arenacross Series, to resurrect it. Despite having just three months to pull together the three- race series, the opening round was a big success. The rider count was up from 85 last year to 90, and the spectator turnout was near capacity. The racing was also great with three exciting motos in the pro class to go along with several great races in the support classes. OTHER WINNERS In the Women's class, two-time champion Shelby Turner took the win over former champion Maria Forsberg. Rachel Gutish had a tough main event with a couple of crashes but managed to get back to the podium. Utah's Nick Tolman won the Intermediate class over Anthony Johnson and Wiliam Riordan. Before taking the Women's class win, Shelby Turner also won the Amateur class. Kimball Whitmer and Jared Prosser rounded out the podium. Destry Abbott had to make a last-lap pass to win the Vet 35+ class over Nick Mcgowen. Michele De Mas finished third. Each round includes a lo- cal club class, and Nick Saia, on a Sherco, won the Arizona Motorcycle Riders Association (AMRA) race with Nick Mcgowen, and Chad Lamaide rounding out the podium. Briefly... Blazusiak (111) leads the way in one of the three main events. The former EnduroCross champ went on to finish third overall.
