time. I'm just so happy I'm able
to be a champion in a sport that I
love with all my heart."
Ferrandis grabbed a rare hole-
shot in moto two over Sexton's
teammate RJ Hampshire, but both
Cooper and Cianciarulo went by
Hampshire on the opening lap.
Cianciarulo pressured Cooper for
a while before he succumbed to
Sexton around the halfway point
and cruised in to finish fourth in
the moto, having achieved his
championship goal in the first
outing.
Ferrandis took the overall with a
1-1 score over Cooper and Cian-
ciarulo. While Cianciarulo won the
title, Ferrandis ended the series
with more moto wins than any-
body, including Cianciarulo.
"This morning, everybody was
asking me what I think about
the championship, but I knew it
wouldn't be enough to win this
championship today," Ferrandis
said. "AC built a big points gap
during the whole season, and
he deserved it 100 percent. He
gave it everything every time
and was still very hard to beat.
He deserved the championship.
But it was the best season of my
career. We did good things. We
won races. We showed them that
everybody in America can count
on me for next year, and next
season also."
Ferrandis heads into the off-
season preparing for his 250cc
felt so focused and so locked-in
today. I can't tell you how long
I've waited for this moment. I
mean, coming out of amateurs,
I thought I was going to do this a
lot! I went through some injuries,
and I honestly thought I was done
at a certain point, and to get back
to this point. I'm just so stoked to
be here. I'm so grateful for Mitch
and my team to stick behind me
through it all. I know it took a long
was going to, and it looked like
Justin [Cooper] was going to
[win the moto]. I was cheering on
Justin the whole moto, like, 'C'
mon, man, you have a good lead,
and you're doing good!' Then I
saw Dylan make a charge; I don't
know what happened to Justin,
but I knew I had to get him. I re-
ally did not want to sit at the rig
for 45 minutes in between [the
races] and stress about it. I just
Marvin Musquin had a good shot
of placing second in the 450MX
Championship after winning the first
moto, but a crash in the second moto
dropped him to third.
