Ben Young Takes 2019 CSBK Title
B
MW's Ben Young has taken
the 2019 Canadian Super-
bike Championship after taking
a third place in Saturday's race
one at Canadian Tire Motorsport
Park behind first-time winner
Samuel Trepanier, held over
August 10-11.
"It is an incredible feeling. I
can't put it into words," said new-
ly-crowned champion, Young. "I
am blessed to receive so much
support from both BMW and the
team, as well as the fans. This
title is for them."
Neither Young nor Trepanier
were able to take the race-two
win on Sunday, as Kenny Ried-
mann (Kawasaki) came out on
top by just 0.031 of a second
from Trepanier and Jordan Szoke
(Kawasaki).
Trepanier was on course to
take a double win but ran into
the final corner too hot, collid-
ing with Riedmann on the front
straight before a drag race to the
finish line between the pair and
third-placed Szoke.
With official timing showing
just 0.031 of a second separat-
ing the top three, CSBK officials
confirmed the results with video
replay, which showed Riedmann
just narrowly defeating Trepanier
for his second career Pro Super-
bike win.
Official protests were filed by
two competitors following the
controversial finish, though the
protest was rejected with the
results finalized post-race.
"It feels good to be up here.
It's always fun to come back and
battle with these guys up front,
and Kawasaki was a huge help
in putting this together for us,"
Riedmann said. "That was defi-
nitely one of the more aggressive
races I've been a part of, and it
got a little sketchy at the end, but
it's always nice to put on a good
show for all the fans that come
out to support us." CN
