a safe gap on Bronson. Despite running into lapped traffic around
the midpoint of the race, the Baumans were pretty much able to run
their own race after that. However, the race for third was heating up.
Beach, Vanderkooi and Pearson were able to close on the de-
fending AFT Twins champion, Mees.
Pearson had an inspired race on his "home" town track moving to
fourth on lap 23, as he looked for the final podium spot. On the last
turn of the last lap, Pearson made his move, and it worked. The only
problem was JD Beach had his plan in action as well. Beach pulled
another improbable last-lap miracle going from fifth to third from the
last turn to the finish line.
Pearson held fourth, as Mees dropped to fifth. Vanderkooi was a
solid sixth as Johnson finished another three seconds back. Jef-
frey Carver (Roof-Systems of Dallas, TX/Indian of Metro Milwaukee,
Indian FTR750) was the last finisher on the lead lap in eighth.
Sammy Halbert (Harley-Davidson Motor Company/Vance &
Hines, Harley-Davidson XG750R) and Kolby Carlile (Estenson Rac-
ing/Monster Energy, Yamaha MT-07) filled the top 10, one lap down.
