Akrapovic Makes Edwards Its First
Two-Wheel Brand Ambassador
A
t a star-studded evening at
historic Zemono Castle in
Slovenia, two-time World Su-
perbike Champion and former
MotoGP rider Colin Edwards
was acclaimed by locally based
performance exhaust specialists
Akrapovic as their first brand am-
bassador of any kind, and specifi-
cally for the motorcycle world.
The announcement of the
Texas Tornado's appointment had
already been made last Decem-
ber when fan-favorite Edwards
made a surprise appearance at
the Akrapovic employees' New
Year's Party. But the agreement
was formalized in front of a select
audience of 55 guests at the Ze-
mono function, including Honda's
former director of its World Su-
perbike and MotoGP operations,
Shuhei Nakamoto; Aprilia Racing
Director Jan Witteveen; Swiss
constructor Eskil Suter; and sev-
eral of Colin's old rivals including
Japanese Superbike ace Noriyuki
Haga. Another of them, Ger-
many's Alex Hoffmann, acted as
emcee for the evening, in front of
seven of the motorcycles arrayed
in the Castle's hall that Edwards
raced during his successful eight-
year stint in World Superbike,
which was rewarded by two world
titles for Castrol Honda in 2000
and 2002, and his decade-long
career in MotoGP which ensued.
Many of Edwards' race bikes
were on display.
"It's very special for us to have
the first Akrapovic brand ambas-
sador from the two-wheeled
world, and it's extremely fitting
that it's Colin," said Igor Akrapo-
vic, founder, and owner of the
eponymous company. "He was
our first world champion out of
the 128 such titles we've been
able to win since then, and it was
such a significant moment in the
