The all-new Benelli 900 Tornado was pictured on the cover of Cycle
News 20 years ago… We interviewed dirt tracker Willie McCoy… We
traveled to Swartz Creek, Michigan, and the Scott Parker compound
to honor Jay Springsteen's 25th year on the national circuit… Pit
Beirer captured his third 250cc MX GP win of the year at the Polish
Grand Prix… Travis Hodges and Adam Mennanga were the top
riders at the 24th NMA Ponca City Grand National Championships in
Oklahoma. Mike Alessi won three titles.
Our cover story was our coverage of the AMA Superbike National at
Mid-Ohio. It was a special weekend for Doug Chandler who won the
Superbike race, joining only three other riders to win, in a career, a
national mile, half-mile, short track, TT and road race. Those other three
riders? Dick Mann, Kenny Roberts and Bubba Shobert… Scott Parker
had little trouble winning the Albuquerque Mile… Dan Smith won the
Wells-to-Jackpot AMA National Hare
& Hound in Nevada.
