VOLUME 56 ISSUE 32 AUGUST 13, 2019 P101 AFT SINGLES Chad Cose (Parkinson Brothers Racing/Rod Lake Racing, Suzuki RM-Z450) made a successful transition back to the Suzuki he started the season on as he won the 15-lap AFT Singles main event. Cose was able to top a three-rider tussle for the victory. AFT Singles points leader Dalton Gauthier (D&D Cycles/Gobert Smash, Husqvarna FC450) was also in the middle of things until a me- chanical problem ended his night at the halfway point. Morgen Mischler (Waters Auto- Body Racing/D&D Powersports, KTM 450 SX-F) got the hole- shot and led for two laps before Cose grabbed a short-lived lead. Mischler then led for seven more before Cose, then Shayna Texter (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing/ Roof-Systems of Dallas, TX, KTM 450 SX-F) exchanged the lead several times through to the finish. Cose was able to make a last- WALKING WOUNDED The night was hard on equipment and riders alike. Just the AFT Twins main event claimed quite a few rid- ers. Perhaps the injury that will most affect the season didn't even see a rider on the ground. "I broke my leg, the left fibula," said Henry Wiles. "Going into turn three; Sammy [Hal- bert] misjudged where I was going into the corner and ran into my leg before it was on the ground. We were just tipping it into the corner, so I'm glad nobody hit the ground at that speed. Given our history, I wasn't sure how I felt at first. Sam was pretty cool and reached out and apologized. Ten years ago I would have never thought I'd say I like Sammy Halbert, especially after he hit me, but I do like Sam, and I have a lot of respect for him. I think it was an honest mistake, and that's how it goes. I'll be having surgery, but not sure I'll be ready for Peoria. I'll know the Friday before the race." JUST SORE Despite their violent get offs, Rob Pearson and Davis Fisher came away "just sore." "I'm doing pretty well, just sore. I went and got checked out at the regional hospital in Rapid that night, and everything came back okay," said Pearson. "I was worried that I had hurt some- thing internally because of chest pain, but all good there. Also x- rayed my left hip to be sure nothing fractured, but that was also good. So we are headed to Sacramento with the one bike as the other one is going to be down for the count until we get a roller chassis bought and put back together." "My leg is a little sore, but other than that, I'm good," Briefly... Robert Pearson survived this crash in the main okay but his motorcycle did not. Jake Johnson (Estenson Rac- ing/Monster Energy, Yamaha MT-07) and James Monaco (Pure Crop 1/KC Racing, Indian FTR750) battled to the end with Johnson grabbing 10th.
