FLAT TRACK
AMERICAN FL AT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 13/AUGUST 10, 2019
CAL EXPO FAIR/SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA
P96
IIIMY OWN RACE:
37 BRONSON BAUMAN
4TH AFT TWINS
"I ba led with Davis Fisher for a lap or
two then I ba led with Bryan for most
of the main event. Fisher got around
Smith pre y quick, which I was unable
to do," said Bauman. "Vanderkooi snuck
up in there too. It was a good ba le all
through the race. Everybody talks about
the Indians being so fast, but it's hard
to dra that Kawasaki down the straight-
away. It was a fun race. I'm not happy with
fourth, but I'm really happy that I was up
in the front. To be up there, contending for
a podium, is a great feeling. Fourth is my
best mile finish to date. To be able to run
with Bryan is an honor. Some of the guys I
looked up to a few years ago, now I'm try-
ing to beat up on them as much as I can."
4 BRYAN SMITH
5TH AFT TWINS
"I was up front again for a minute. It was
good everywhere except exi ng the cor-
ners," said Smith. "That's the most impor-
tant part of the damn race, unfortunately.
The guys gave me a great bike; it was fast.
We didn't start off the day that great and
made it good. Exi ng the corners, I was
spinning. Everybody on an Indian would
damn near run me over coming off the
corner. I was doing everything that I could.
We changed a lot of the setup and got it
be er and be er. Had it been a typical
Sacramento Mile, with a nice fat groove, I
think we would have been closer to Jared
and Briar. Having that slick, marbled shit
out there was almost made for an Indian.
I wanted to just stay behind Jared and
follow, follow, follow him, and hope that
I could stay with him. Unfortunately, that
didn't happen. I think he wanted me to get
in the front. He rolled off, and I went past
him. I really didn't want to lead it; I just
wanted to follow him and hopefully get
away. When he got by me, he gapped me
too much, and I couldn't keep up."
