IN THE WIND P48 First Look: 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 and Rocket 3 GT Power Cruisers T riumph has unveiled its brand- new Rocket 3 and Rocket 3 GT machines, signaling the first time we've seen a complete model overhaul since the Rocket was first released in 2004. The new Rocket models, each powered by a 2458cc inline triple, will have the most torque of any production machine yet released, with Triumph quoting a stunning 163 lb-ft at 4000 rpm, and 165 horsepower at 6000 rpm—an 11 percent jump from the previous model—with weight down a claimed 88 pounds to a claimed 642 pounds for the Rocket 3 and 648 pounds for the GT. Styling has been completely revised, including twin LED head- lights, Triumph maker's mark tri- angle branding, and the sculpted three-header exhaust. The hardware for both ma- chines is top spec, with Brembo gracing the Rocket 3, and Rocket 3 GT with their new Stylema calipers (the same as found on the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Fac- tory), Showa suspension, and 20-spoke aluminum wheels. The GT model gets up-spec exposed machining on rim and spokes. Both models are also fitted with Avon Cobra Chrome tires, de- veloped especially for the new Rocket 3. Electronics come in the form of a second-generation TFT instru- ment panel with illuminated switch cubes, cornering ABS & traction control, four riding modes (road, rain, sport and rider-configurable) hill-hold control, cruise control, keyless ignition, USB charging and heated grips as standard on the GT (heated grips are acces- sory fit on the R). Triumph is also including a range of over 50 accessories for the base model Rocket and the GT, including the world's first inte- grated GoPro control system that enables GoPro camera opera- tion, which is an accessory-fitted Bluetooth connectivity module. The connection and control are displayed on the TFT instruments, allowing intuitive video and photo operation via the switchgear. CN The Triumph Rocket 3 GT and base model Rocket 3 (foreground) have more torque than any production motorcycle on the planet.
