P122 50 Years Ago AUGUST 19, 1969 LOOKING BACK Kenny Roberts leading Rich Schlachter at Laguna Seca was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago. Roberts went on to win what was a round of the World Championship F750 Road Race Series. Freddie Spencer won the Superbike Production class… Rick Hocking won the Santa Fe Short Track and Jay Springsteen topped the Peoria TT two days later. We had coverage of both… Broc Glover and Rex Staten won the Houston National MX… Larry Roeseler was a member of the Bol d'Herbe 24-Hour Off-Road race in France. 40 Years Ago AUGUST 15, 1979 We featured multi-bike tests in issue #31 50 years ago. Pictured on the cover were a couple of Harley-Davidson Baja 100 dirt bikes that we tested at Saddleback Park. Other bikes that we tested included the Jawa 90 ($315), Sachs 125 Enduro ($588), Yamaha 100 ($389) and Bultaco Sherpa S 125 ($680)… We covered the National Hillclimb Championship in York, Pennsylvania. Beese Wendt rode a Vincent to victory. (Left) Freddie Spencer won the Superbike Production class at the World Championship F750 round at Laguna Seca. (Right) Jimmy Button (right) and Doug Henry were moto winners at Washougal, but it was Button who took the overall win.
