IN THE WIND P46 Waters Tops Shortened Australia National MX R ound eight of the Australian Pirelli MX Nationals took place in Moree, New South Wales, Australia, July 28, with Husqvarna rider Todd Waters tak- ing the race-shortened win. The MX1 class again saw the red championship plate change hands with Waters (DPH Husqvar- na) winning the opening moto af- ter taking advantage of a first-lap crash by CDR Yamaha Monster Energy's Luke Clout, who would ultimately finish ninth in the moto. The two are now separated by just two points heading into the final two rounds of the series at Coolum next weekend. Kirk Gibbs (Yamaha) led the majority of moto one on his CDR Yamaha Monster Energy machine before succumbing to Waters' speed, ending up second in the moto. Brett Metcalfe (Honda) rode to a solid third position on his Penrite Honda CRF450R. He was unable to match the speed of Waters and Gibbs but finished comfortably ahead of the rest of the field. Empire Kawasaki's Dylan Long rode to a season-best fourth position with Yamalube Yamaha's Richie Evans and Davey Motor- sport KTM's Caleb Ward both riding to season-best results with fifth and sixth, respectively. Overall results at Moree were taken after the first moto when the second moto was canceled before the riders had the chance to line up for race two. The orga- nizers were forced to cancel the second moto after it was deemed medical provisions for the riders were not up to snuff. Due to an inability of the local region's medi- cal services to provide adequate medical support with the local hospital reaching capacity, a de- cision was made in favor of rider safety to conclude round eight of the series after the first motos. In MX2, Nathan Crawford took the win after getting off to a fourth-place start. He first got around Jay Wilson for third, then took control of second when Joel Evans went down. Crawford then set his sights on leader Wilson Todd and passed him about the halfway point. He eventually took the checkered flag with nearly four seconds to spare over Todd. Wilson finished right behind Todd in third. Todd, however, still leads the class championship by 18 points over Kyle Webster and 24 points over third-place Wilson. Crawford is fourth in the championship, 29 points behind Wilson. CN MX1 1. Todd Waters (Hus) 2. Kirk Gibbs (Yam) 3. Brett Metcalfe (Hon) 4. Dylan Long (Kaw) 5. Richie Evans (Yam) MX2 1.
