So, I don't like to complain about anything to do with motorcycles, but Pro Stock drag racing is anything but stock. The Harleys contain maybe one Harley part— the sticker on the tank. Harley sponsors teams racing all cus- tom/aftermarket motors that have nothing to do with anything OEM. At least the Suzuki's are "based" on a stock motor. The rules are clearly biased toward the pretend Harleys and pretty much keep all but diehard Suzuki folks from participating. It all feels very hollow and non- engaging for one wanting to experience real brand-vs-brand competition. It's reminiscent of pro wrestling where to be a fan, one has to pretend right along with the actors. Soulless. Change the class name or change the rules and bring authenticity back to the sport. M. Dayn Mansfield Jeremy McGrath How could I have screwed up an already poorly written letter in the latest issue of Cycle News? I somehow forget to list my favorite rider of all time, that being Jeremy McGrath. Supercross, motocross, trucks and maybe add road racing and WorldSBK, or world rally, and you have Jeremy. He still loves all forms of two-wheel as well as four-wheel racing. He always has a smile on his face. He might make a great an- nouncer in the future? Also, the note written by Carlin Dunn's mom is exquisitely written. Al Banta Washougal National MX Great track and awesome racing. All four motos were interesting to watch. Good thing Eli Tomac didn't pull holeshots because that would have really changed the races. It's fun watching Tomac work through the field but not so fun to watch two runaway wins. In the 250s, Dylan Ferrandis was smooth and made up some points. I'd like to see Adam Cian- ciarulo take the title, he's still got a big points lead, but I remember how the Supercross series went. Ken Bateman Eli Tomac must be very sensitive to bike setup. When he feels com- fortable, he's an absolute beast. Unreal performance. Terry Heath He [Tomac] fell three or four laps to go, got back up and still caught Ken Roczen. There was no stop- ping him. Go, Kawasaki! Andy Chavez Empire Of Dirt: Loving Two-Strokes Interesting take on the two/four- stroke thing. The entire package is so good today that even a me- diocre rider can really haul. But, as you stated, they don't have the skillset when things go bad. I started doing hare scrambles in the late 70s. The bikes we rode then are frightening today. My son's bikes are amazing to me. But they are all he's ever known. He's now 19 and a college sopho- more. He's been riding since age four and racing since six, mainly moto with a little off-road stuff thrown in to keep it interesting. I worked with him a lot early on, and he has worked with several coaches as he progressed. I wish more riders could get that kind of training, I believe that would pre- vent a lot of injuries and possibly keep more riders in the sport. John Gepford Good thoughts. I can't disagree. I love all the bikes, and I know most of us have been lucky more than good and should be glad we are still in "good" shape. I have not yet regretted my MX days—it is so much my identity. People who never rode don't get it. I do remember when I rode all of the time it seemed so less risky. You knew where that thin line was most of the time, but still needed the aforementioned luck.
