T
he old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" appar-
ently doesn't apply to the Vance & Hines NHRA
Pro Stock Motorcycle team. After dominat-
ing the first half of the 2019 season with five wins in
seven races, the factory Harley team made a major
change in Denver where riders Andrew Hines, Eddie
Krawiec and Angelle Sampey arrived with new FXDR-
based Pro Stock Motorcycles at the Dodge Mile-
High Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Bandimere
Speedway in Denver, Colorado.
At their last outing in Norwalk, Hines and Kraweic
raced in the final. Since then, the Vance & Hines
crew has worked feverishly to finish their three bikes
in time for the upcoming race in Denver and Sonoma.
Two of the bikes were ready in early July, so Krawic
and Sampey made a few test runs at Lucas Oil Race-
way Indianapolis on July 4. They were encouraged
by the results. The FDXR is the fourth factory Harley-
Davidson model that has been adapted for NHRA
Pro Stock Motorcycle competition joining the V-Rod,
Night Rod and Street Rod.
The move proved to be a smart one after Hines
and Krawiec met in the final round where Hines con-
tinued his domination of the class with his sixth win in
eight races. Hines rode to a 7.174 to win his 54th title
to beat Krawiec's 7.222.
