MOTOCROSS LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 8 / JULY 20, 2019 SPRING CREEK RACEWAY / MILLVILLE, MINNESOTA P70 the podium. So, 1-1 is incredible! It's amazing what a moto win can do for your confidence." Tomac was third overall with a 2-5 over Musquin (3-7), Roczen (14-2), Barcia (11-4), Short (6-8), Noren (7-11), Miller (5-14) and Bloss (16-6). Despite the off day (for Tomac's standards), Tomac still extended his points lead over Musquin to 38 points with four rounds left to run. Webb moved up to fourth in the points with his lowed him over the triple, and I crashed, which sucked, but I just got up and put my head down. I knew I had some tricks up my sleeve, and I felt really good today. Man, it's incredible to go 1-1! I don't know what hap- pened to everybody else, but I got two good starts and stayed out of trouble, and it felt really awesome, man. It's an incred- ible feeling, especially after these last couple where I was right there but wasn't even on WELL-QUALIFIED To date in his professional career, Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha's Justin Cooper has qualified first overall at exactly half of the outdoor national races he's raced. He kept this ratio intact at Millville, riding exactly three laps on the muddy Spring Creek circuit in the shortened, single practice/qualifying session and logging the fastest time. WEATHER DELAY The skies opened up above Millville, Minnesota's Spring Creek Raceway at about 6 a.m. the morning of the national, and it rained so hard that it washed away a couple sections of the track completely and left a river running through the pits. The track had to be shortened in a couple spots, the most significant of which was the track's biggest uphill being cut by about 70% in length. And the entire program was additionally delayed due to the threat of lightning in the area, so the first motos didn't start until an hour after they were scheduled. FALK, CANTRELL BACK The TLD/Red Bull KTM team saw the return of both rookie Mitchell Falk and his teammate Sean Cantrell at Millville. It was Cantrell's first race since he dropped out of action late in the AMA Supercross series to heal a fractured bone in his wrist. He went 20-DNF in the two motos, dropping out after three laps in moto two. As for Falk, the rookie has been out since he broke his collarbone at the Hangtown series opener, and he snagged his first-ever top-10 finish in the first moto, ending the day with an 8-19 for 11th overall. MARCHBANKS BACK Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawa- saki's Garrett Marchbanks has been sidelined with a shoulder/head injury since a big crash he suffered, while running near the front, at High Point a couple months ago. He returned to action at Millville and garnered a solid ninth overall with a 10-9 score despite experiencing plenty of trouble in the Millville mud. Briefly... IIIMY OWN RACE: 1 ELI TOMAC 3RD 450MX (2-5) Eli Tomac didn't have a good day at Mill- ville, at least in terms of what's normally expected of him, but somehow he s ll managed to end up on the podium and pull away in the points standings. "I just wasn't on it there in that moto," Tomac said a er moto two. "No one to blame it on, just some bad riding. And even with the mistake in the back, that didn't help me at all, shuffling back a few spots. The guys up front were riding good there in the second moto, and I was just a li le bit off." 25 MARVIN MUSQUIN 4TH 450MX (3-7) Marvin Musquin has been on the gas lately, and with mud in the forecast, the Frenchman was an easy bet at Millville, but luck wasn't on his side. In the first moto, he finished a solid third coming from behind, but he ended up on the ground off the start in moto two, and under his motorcycle, and his 3-7 on the day cost him a lot of points in the champi- onship. "I'm definitely not happy because the riding today was pre y good, but the result is not what I wanted," Musquin said. "I was looking forward to a good ba le for the lead and to make up some points, but that didn't happen."
