by winning the following race,
giving his competitors no chance
to build momentum or mount any
kind of sophisticated defense.
He went 3-1 at Millville to win
his sixth overall of the first eight
races.
450MX
Ever since Webb finished off his
first-ever 450SX Championship
earlier this year, he's been play-
ing catchup, chasing settings
and trying to claw his way to the
top of the 2019 Lucas Oil AMA
Pro Motocross Championship.
At the muddy 2019 Millville Moto-
cross National, he got to the top.
The question now is whether he
can stay there.
Webb qualified first at Millville
for the second race in a row,
and he nearly grabbed the hole-
shot in the muddier first 450MX
moto, but it was JGR's Isaac
Teasdale who got the holeshot.
Webb was in the lead by the
third turn, though, and pulled out
to a lead of over eight seconds
before the end of the open-
ing lap over a quartet of priva-
teers: Henry Miller, John Short,
Teasdale and Kyle Cunningham.
Monster Energy Kawasaki's
points leader Eli Tomac rounded
the opening lap behind Cun-
ningham, and worked his way
forward quickly to grab second
by the end of lap four.
But Tomac could never get
PRIVATEER POWER
Millville saw some really good
finishes for privateers in the 450MX
class, with two of them finishing in
the top 10. First, TPJ Racing Hon-
da's John Short snatched seventh
overall with a solid 6-8 score, the
24-year-old running as high as third
in the first moto. And then there's
Paulson Rock/FXR Racing's KTM-
mounted Henry Miller who ran sec-
ond early in moto one on his way to
fifth in the moto and ended the day
with a 5-14 for ninth overall. Early
in moto one at Millville, with Coo-
per Webb out front, the rest of the
top five was filled out by privateers
Miller, Short, JGR-backed Isaac
Teasdale (not on the official factory
team, but ripped the holeshot in the
first moto with parts JGR sells to the
public), and Honda-mounted Kyle
Cunningham. With four rounds left,
and with Freddie Noren now racing
for JGR's factory Suzuki team, Miller
is the top privateer in the points,
sitting 13th, in front of Kawasaki
privateer Lorenzo Locurcio in 14th,
and Short in 15th.
DEANO HAS A
HOME—AGAIN
Dean Wilson announced prior to
Millville that he has re-signed with
the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna
team, officially, for 2020. The
former 250MX National Champ has
now done this twice with the same
team.
