JULY 26, 1989
It was a weekend of winners 20 years ago, and we featured many
of them on the cover of Cycle News. Doug Chandler won the AMA
Superbike round at Mid-Ohio. Kenny Roberts Jr. got back to winning
at the German GP, as did Mike LaRocco at Unadilla (it was his
first win since 1996). And, Chris Carr came away victorious at the
Oklahoma City Half Mile… Bryan Smith was one of the big winners at
the AMA Grand National Amateur Championships in Indianapolis.
Ron Lechien in all his glory was featured on the cover for winning the
Troy, Ohio, round of the AMA 250cc National Motocross Championship
at Kenworthy's. It was his first win of the season. However, Jeff Stanton
clinched the class championship; Guy Cooper won the 125cc class
in Ohio… Scott Parker won the Springfield Mile…. Ed Lojak won the
AMA National Hare Scrambles at Millville, Minnesota… We featured
an interview with future MX world champion Trampas Parker…
