CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G P6 Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News. Letters should not exceed 150 words and are subject to editing. Anonymous letters won't be considered for publication and each letter should contain the writer's name, address and daytime phone number… Editor Shayna Texter Is there an award for best female athlete (in any sport)? If there is, Shayna Texter should get it. She is not only the best female motor- cycle racer, she is just simply one of the best racers out there. What an amazing little spark plug! The Dani Pedrosa of flat track. Her opening lap at Texas was amazing, one of the best laps I have ever witnessed. And her Lima race was outstanding, just stretching the throttle cable to the stop. After watching the Women's soccer team win the world cup and then seeing one of the play- ers about to stomp on the U.S. flag, it was great to visit Shayna's FB page and see her tribute to the vets on the 4th and her obvious pride in the USA. It's great to see American Flat Track doing so well and see so many talented riders competing. I don't remember it being this good for a long time. David Conti Politics, Religion and Electric Motorcycles II My comments were not meant to speak for everybody, and for those people who want informa- tion regarding electric motor- cycles (Steve Spencer) by all means, go for it. There is a differ- ence between reporting informa- tion and editorializing. The premise of my comments addressed the concept of editorial opinion, and the writer's seeming opinion that electric motorcycles are the future, so we had better suck it up and get ready to accept it as our only future. I personally don't agree. Cycle News is here to do the excellent job it has done for many de- cades—report on our great sport. An excellent example is the article on touring the Picos and Asturias mountains in Spain and Portu- gal! Big thanks to Keith Dowdle! As someone who has toured in Europe, it hit the mark! Are electric vehicles the only future we have? No! Are they be- coming a semi-viable alternative? Possibly, and for those who like them, I say, "bravo!" The point is that editorials tell- ing us that the demise of the sport we all love so much, in the form we know it, is imminent or inevi- table, simply don't belong here. As the others comments show (Salmons, Amador, Golde and DeNuzzo) there are options or alternatives for everybody! Richard T. Haight Why does anybody want an electric motorcycle? We still have gas! Armen Clawson Lowside: An Impeccable Man Fantastic article. It was really nice to hear from someone who knew Carlin as a friend and competitor. I never had the pleasure to meet the man, but I would have made every effort if he was on tour with Ducati, or if I was in his area. In his videos he came across as approachable and genuine as everyone has said. Motorcycling lost someone special. Also, congratulations on your win. Robert Rekker Thanks, Rennie, for this report. You make it clear that Carlin was not just a competitor but a friend and a mentor. Your relationship with him was very special and we appreciate you telling us about it. Putting that aside, you are now the champion, and for that I hope you know what an incredible job you did on the mountain. I hope, too, that in time you overcome this loss of a fellow competitor as well as a good friend and consider returning next year to defend your title. And finally, I have to say RIP Carlin, you will be missed by all. Al Banta I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. I was on Olympic Curve that day and photographed Carlin as he went through the turn and flew past us. He seemed to be going much faster than anyone else. I didn't know he didn't make it to the finish line until minutes later and was deeply saddened to hear of his death. Mike Pach "She is not only the best female motorcycle racer, she is just simply one of the best racers out there."
