ROAD RACING FIM WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 9 / JULY 12-14, 2019 LAGUNA SECA / MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA P56 FIM WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP IIIMY OWN RACE: 19 ALVARO BAUTISTA DNF/DNF/DNF "I really feel bad about what happened today," said Alvaro Bau sta. "At turn one in the Superpole race, Razgatlioglu completely closed my line, and I couldn't do anything to prevent his rear wheel from hi ng my front. His move ruined both of my races today because I injured my le shoulder in the crash. I was taken to the medical center and a er checks; I was given the okay by the doctors to try and take part in race two, seeing as the x-ray showed that nothing was broken. Unfortunately, a er just one lap, I realized that the pain was too much for me to ride because as I didn't have any strength in my le arm I wasn't able to brake in the le -handers, and for this reason, I came into the pits." 11 SANDRO CORTESE 14TH/11TH/14TH "It was a tough day, and I was just happy to finish the race and pick up two points," said Sandro Cortese. "This wasn't our objec ve for the weekend, but it was all that was possible. Now I have to concen- trate on my recovery during the summer break, to make sure I come back strong in Por mao ready for the last four races of the season." Rea from pole shot forward, leaving Davies to fend off the surprisingly early probes and al- most attacks from Bautista. After his fall, he restarted and finished 17th and last, with Leon Haslam (Kawasaki Racing Team) also a crasher, cracking his hand. With Bautista out, Rea came under pressure from Davies, but the challenge faded as Davies experienced tire drop in three stages. No surprise as Tom Sykes had chosen the "X" rear tire, designed initially as a 10-lap special for this year's novelty of a 10-lap sprint race on Sundays. With Rea finally safe and gone away out front, to win by over five seconds in 25 laps, Davies' rear was still enough to give him a clear second place. He was two seconds faster than third-place Razgatlioglu, who had been only seventh after qualifying. Alvaro Bautista's run of luck turned absolutely sour at Laguna Seca, with crashes in race one and the Superpole race, and a DNF in the final race.
