rounding out the podium in third. Fortune, on his Mom and Dad/ Grandma and Grandpa-spon- sored Yamaha YZ125, took the holeshot, and the battle was on. With a first lap time of 19 min- utes and 19 seconds, timing and scoring showed Ben Ward (KTM) first through the gate on lap one, followed four seconds later by Devon Jink (KTM). Logan Kittock was just two seconds behind Jink, with Fortune only eight seconds behind Kittock. On lap two, Kittock poured on the coals, taking a full minute off his lap time to gain the lead on his KTM 150SX. "I started dead last," said Kittock. "I've had quite a few of those so far this year racing the GNCC Series. I made some quick work and got to the lead. Rumor has it; I had anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute lead. And then Tanner caught me really quick. It really surprised me that he caught me so quick. Then we had really big issues with a lapper who wouldn't let us get by. Tanner had a really good line through the woods, and he passed us both. I got stuck with the guy, so I couldn't catch Tan- ner. After that, I wasn't able to make up any time on Tanner, and he came home with the win. Tan- ner rode really well today. I didn't have much for him at the end of the race." "I had to push really hard in the beginning, because I got a horrible start," said Tanner Whipple. "I passed a bunch of guys on the first lap. I rode with Matt [McDonald] the second lap. The third lap, I rode with Buddy. I rode a lap by myself, and then I caught Kittock with two laps to go. I got him on the second-to- last lap." Whipple said, "the dirt was perfect. I thought it [the trail] was awesome. It was kind of a tough trail, but it was fun and flowing. It got rutty in some places, and there were some mud holes, but I thought it was good. I had fun."
