IN THE WIND P42 Alessi Wins In Canada M ike Alessi (Honda Cana- da/GDR/Fox Racing) was the overall winner at round four of the Canadian National MX Series, which is also a round of the Rockstar Triple Crown Championship, at Go- pher Dunes MX Park in Court- land, July 13. Alessi (Honda) won both mo- tos for the overall win, the first of the season for Alessi. Phil Nicoletti (Yamaha) was second overall with a pair of seconds, while Cole Thompson (KTM) took third overall with 3-3 moto finishes. Colton Facciotti (Honda) and Shawn Maffenbeier (Yamaha) rounded out the top five overall. Thompson led the first few laps of the first 450cc Pro moto before Alessi got by him. Alessi led the way for the next 14 laps to take the checkered flag ahead of Nicoletti, who got around Thompson around the halfway point. Nicoletti crossed the finish line six seconds be- hind Alessi and safely ahead of Thompson. Facciotti finished a distant fourth and five seconds ahead of KTM rider Tristan Lane. In race two, it was all Alessi. The Honda rider got out in front right from the get-go and never let off, taking the win nearly 30 seconds ahead of Nicoletti, who started the race way back in 11th place. Nicoletti made a bunch of quick passes and was already in third by the third lap. He passed Thompson a lap later but, by that time, Alessi was already long gone. Thompson finished a distant third, not too far ahead of Fac- ciotti. Shawn Maffenbeier (Yamaha) took fifth, well ahead of Lane. Matt Goerke was running in the top three of both motos when troubles struck. A me- chanic put him out in moto one, and a crash did him in in the second moto. In the 450cc Pro Champion- ship, Facciotti and Nicoletti are deadlocked at the top of the leaderboard with 185 points apiece, and Alessi is third with 168 points. Thompson is another 25 points back in fourth. Maffen- beier is holding down fifth, 39 points behind Thompson. In the Triple Crown (which, over the year, combines MX, supercross and arenacross), Nicoletti leads with 300 points, followed by Thompson with 286 points and Haffenbeier with 230 points. In MX2, Honda rider Dylan Wright won both motos at Go- pher, while KTM pilot Jess Pettis went 2-3 for second overall. Yamaha rider Luke Renzland completed the podium with 3-4 motos. Tyler Medaglia (8-2) and Marshal Weltin (4-5) rounded out the top five overall. Wright leads the 250 Pro Championship with 183 points, followed by Marshal Weltin with 169 points and Pettis at 158 points. CN 450 PRO 1. Mike Alessi (Hon) 1-1 2. Phil Nicoletti (Yam) 2-2 3. Cole Thompson (KTM) 3-3 4. Colton Facciotti (Hon) 4-4 5. Shawn Maffenbeier (Yam) 6-5 Mike Alessi (right) won both motos in the latest round of the Canada National MX series at Gopher Dunes.
