Ben Bostrom was pictured on the cover 20 years ago for winning
race two of the World Superbike Championship round at Laguna
Seca… Anthony Gobert won the first leg, but Bostrom was the hero
of the day going 2-1. It was Bostrom's first superbike win of any kind…
Will Davis won the Route 66 Raceway Half Mile in Joliet, Illinois… Tim
Ferry held off Jeremy McGrath to win the inaugural Summercross
race at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. Ferry won pocketed $20,000
from the $103,000 purse.
Our coverage of the 1989 250cc Unadilla U.S. Grand Prix was featured
on the cover 30 years ago. Rick Johnson was the overall winner.
The GP also marked the end of Bob Hannah's racing career. Hannah
announced before the race that he was retiring following the GP. He said
to the fans after finishing ninth, "You guys have treated me great. You're
not losing a king since a new one [Johnson] has stepped in"… Rain
caused confusion at the Belgian Grand Prix. Wayne Rainey was the
unofficial winner.
