CN III VOICES W H A T Y O U A R E S A Y I N G P6 Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News. Letters should not exceed 150 words and are subject to editing. Anonymous letters won't be considered for publication and each letter should contain the writer's name, address and daytime phone number… Editor RedBud Motocross Jason Weigandt and Grant Langs- ton do a good job calling the race, but I wish the cameras would stop following the race winner off the track and focus on finding a battle for position in the top 10 or just show the top five crossing the line. I wouldn't mind seeing the 450 grid cut down from 40 to 32 riders. There's too much of a difference in speed from the top 10 guys to the back of the pack. Just because you're putting more riders out there doesn't mean the racing will be better. Ken Bateman Voices: Politics, Religion, And Electric Motorcycles Richard T. Haight does not speak for me. I want to know about it all! Politics, electric, solar, wind, etc. Thank you for keeping me informed. Steve Spencer Motorcycles are supposed to be fun! I have ridden all kinds of bikes and had a lot of fun. Recently I was able to ride an electric Alta, and it was really fun, too. If you hate elec- tric motorcycles, I dare you to go ride a good one and not have fun. Steven Salmons I believe that electric motor- cycles and OHV are here to stay and are becoming an important transportation and/or recreation vehicle for many who want to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. However, to me, they are simply just another form of transporta- tion and recreation. The purchase and use of said vehicle should be based—in a pragmatic fashion—on the rider's need and not looked to as some magic bullet that will singlehandedly save the planet or the sport. Donald Amador Great thoughts. As always, the market will always win, and when electric surpasses ICE in all the important ways, it will take over the market (if politics and Big Govern- ment doesn't force the issue first as was the case for 3-wheel ATVs). In a way, electric motorcycles today reminds me of riding across Nevada on the Pony Express Trail, where I can flog the e-pony as fast as it will go or take it easy, but eventually, all too soon, I will need to stop, let it rest, feed and water it, and after a while, I can get going again. Or just jump off the spent pony and onto a fresh horse (plug in a fresh battery pack). Ride on! Paul J. Golde Using the clutch and shifting gears is a big part of riding. Riding an "automatic" is cheating as far as I'm concerned. It would be nice never to have to clean an air filter again. How many 40 minutes on the track, 20 off (kids practice) can I get at my local MX track without charging the battery of an Alta (the best electric MX bike ever built). I'm not looking to drag a big 220V generator to the track in the hopes of getting two hours of riding in. Electric motorcycles are the answer to a question that nobody was asking. At least no one that I know. Dan DeNuzzo Throwback Thursday: Team Kawasaki 1980 Just showed this to the fella—top left! He looks a little older now, but at age 80, he still has a good head of hair! Thanks for the throwback! Denise Mathers It must have been '80, at the end of the 250 GP at 'Dilla. Gaylon jumped out on the track on a full factory 125. The gates were open and people everywhere, while he just screamed away. Was crazy cool! Michael Bernard Carlin Dunne Racing is all about limits. Exceed- ing any of those limits can be a high price to pay. Cheers for trying Carlin, and being successful many times. Preston Petty "If you hate electric motorcycles, I dare you to go ride a good one and not have fun."
